We are the original and official water group fighting contaminants in our local water supply

OFFICIAL GROUP-In August of 2015, residents of Hannibal, MO. and Ralls County who are customers of Hannibal Board of Public Works received a notice describing a water treatment change. The notice explained that to control violations of Total Trihalomethanes which were above EPA regulations since 2009, that chloramines would be added as our new water treatment. A group of people on facebook did their research and after finding that chloramines would cause health issues for residents we decided to fight the new method of treatment and requested that Granulated Activated Carbon be used instead. HBPW (Hannibal Board of Public Works) and the Hannibal City Council refused to listen to the people and hastily added the new chemical mixture to our water supply. Additional research found that HBPW had been not only allowing the residents to drink non-potable, carcinogenic water since 2009, but actually raising the bills for water that was not safe to drink, bathe or shower in and unsafe for our pets. A group of Concerned Citizens sprang into action and became very vocal in opposing the new treatment and the years of violations for TTHM's.

Crystal Stephens, Ada Knutelski, Christine Stolte and O.C. Latta formed Concerned Citizens for Safe Drinking Water and the group currently has nearly 900 members on facebook. This group is solely funded by the founders listed above.
Concerned Citizens inspired others to get active as well. The chloramine issue is being addressed sufficiently. However, there are other issues pertaining to contaminants in our water supply.
The Safe Drinking Water Act defines the term "contaminant" as meaning any physical, chemical, biological, or radiological substance or matter in water.

The long-term health effects of water contaminants are risking the health and lives of our children.

Concerned Citizens for Safe Drinking Water want you to be aware of what is in your water and how it affects your health.

This website will explain the issues, inform you of the contaminants which are in the water and let you know the health effects of those contaminants. We will keep you informed of actions being taken to fix the water issue and we want residents to tell their stories and report their health issues.
